Colour work

Balayage & Custom Colour

Colour that grows out without a hard line at the roots. We build a shade plan around your skin tone and your regrowth cycle, then paint freehand so the blend does the work instead of a striping pattern.

The approach

Colour planned for the grow-out, not just the first week

The best-looking colour job is often the one that still looks intentional eleven weeks later. That means choosing a placement that softens as it lifts out, and picking a base shade that sits close enough to your natural to avoid a visible band.

We test a strand first on any big change, especially over box dye or previous lightening. It adds twenty minutes and removes most of the risk of a surprise orange.

  • Strand test before any major lift
  • Freehand placement matched to your parting
  • Bond-building added to every lightening service
  • A take-home tone plan so the shade lasts

What makes the shade last

Colour fades. The job is to control how it fades so the last month looks deliberate rather than tired.

Toner, not just bleach

Every lift gets a custom toner mixed to the shade we agreed on. Skipping this step is why salon blondes sometimes go brassy in a fortnight.

Foils only where needed

We use freehand painting for most of the head and reserve foils for the sections that need a harder lift. Less foil means a softer line as it grows.

Bond treatment built in

A repairing additive goes into the lightener itself, so the hair is being protected during the process rather than rescued afterwards.

Our Process

From consultation to finished shade

Colour takes longer than a cut, so here is exactly what the hours are spent on.

01

Shade consultation

Swatches come out and we look at your skin tone in daylight near the window, not under salon lights.

02

Strand and patch test

A small section is processed first. Patch test a minimum of 48 hours ahead if you are a new client.

03

Sectioning and painting

Hair is parted to follow your natural fall and the lightener is painted freehand, working from the ends upward.

04

Development

Time is judged by eye and by feel, not by a stopwatch. We check every ten minutes.

05

Toning

A custom toner goes on after the wash to settle the shade and cut any warmth we do not want.

06

Gloss and finish

A final gloss seals the cuticle, then a blow-dry, then a walkthrough of the tone plan.

FAQ

Colour questions

The ones we answer most often at the chair. Ask anything else by phone.

Three to four hours for a half-head on most hair. Fine hair goes quicker and thick dark hair can push it to four and a half.

Lightening always changes the hair. A bond builder in the mix and a gloss at the end keep most of the strength, but we will be straight with you about anything more aggressive.

Yes, with a base colour rather than a balayage. Balayage is designed to leave some root visible, which is not what everyone wants with grey.

Usually, with a strand test first. Box dye contains metallic salts that can react badly, so we test before committing to the whole head.

Every seven to nine weeks for the root, with a toner refresh around week five if you are blonde. Stretching it further costs more to correct.

Yes, and they are quoted individually because the work varies a lot. Expect a consultation with a strand test before any appointment is booked.
